This walk follows field and woodland paths passing Mountfield Court before joining the road at Mountfield Village. The road is then followed for a short distance through the village before more field paths are followed taking you around the south side of the reservoir and into Darwell Forest. There is only the occasional view of the reservoir and limited access to the water’s edge. Mountfield lane is then followed for about a mile along the North side of the reservoir, again with only limited views of the reservoir. Fields are then crossed to Glottenham Manor where the access road is followed back to Robertsbridge.

There are only limited views of the reservoir but there are some great views over the farmland of the High Weald.

Start  Robertsbridge Station, Car park (pay and display). Nearby post codeTN32 5DD. OS Grid reference TQ733235.

  1. Leave the station car park and then turn right over the level crossing. Having crossed the railway turn left into Mill Rise. Continue downhill to join a path to a lane.

  2. Turn left along the lane and then pass under the railway. After passing under the railway turn right onto the access road to Glottenham Manor nursing home.

  3. Pass under the railway again and then look for a stile on the left. Cross the stile and then follow a path beside a stream to a footbridge.

  4. Cross the footbridge and then continue with the railway on the left. Continue forward crossing two footbridges and a stile to join a path between the railway and a stream. At a path junction turn right across a footbridge and then turn left.

  5. Continue with the stream on your left through two fields to a footbridge. Cross the footbridge and then continue straight across the field to a footbridge into the woodland. Cross the footbridge and then follow a path through the woodland to another footbridge into a field

  6. Cross the footbridge and then continue forward to a tunnel under the railway. Pass under the railway and then continue forward over the bridge ahead. After crossing the bridge bear right following a faint track across the field. The track passes just to the left of a small woodland.

  7. Continue forward up the earth bank ahead and then passing to the right of a pond before heading towards a gate at the top of the field. Go through the gate and then follow a track to the right of the buildings.

  8. At a junction keep right and then follow the access road to the road. At the road turn right passing the church. Ignore the footpath on the left by the village hall but continue to where the road turns sharp right. Here turn left onto a path beside a metal gate. Continue forward on a track through a small woodland and then continue in a field with the hedge on your right.

  9. Continue forward onto a track through woodland to a footbridge. Cross the footbridge into a field and then continue forward with the hedge on your left to cross a stile. Continue forward to a driveway and then turn left and then right through a gate onto a footpath.

  10. Follow the path through the woodland to a footbridge into a field. Cross the footbridge and then turn left to gateway. Go through the gateway and then head straight across the field towards the second oak tree from the right in the opposite hedge.

  11. Pass through a gateway and then bear left, diagonally across the field. Continue on a path through a small woodland and then bear right in the next field down to the far bottom corner to join a track. Continue to follow the track across the next two fields. At the end of the second field do not go through the gateway but turn left to a gate.

  12. Go through this gate and then continue straight across the field to a stile into the woodland. Cross the stile and then continue forward on a path. Turn right onto a sunken track and then cross a footbridge. Continue to follow a path to a clearing, here it is possible to continue forward to the water’s edge and then return to the clearing.

  13. At the clearing follow the waymarked footpath until you reach the track beside the conveyor belt. Turn right along the track and then take the right-hand of the two tracks. Cross a bridge and then turn right onto a path. Follow the path to the road.

  14. Turn right along the road for about a mile. After passing the driveway to Mountfield Park Farm go through the next gate on the left. Head across the field to the far top corner and then cross a stile into the woodland.

  15. Follow a path through the woodland to another stile into a field. Cross the stile and then continue straight across the field to a gate. Cross a stile onto a track and then follow this track to an access road. Turn left along the access road to a lane.

  16. Turn left along the lane and then pass under the railway before turning right onto path into a housing estate. Continue forward to the main road and then turn right back to the station.
