This walk follows the river Rother for about three and a half miles to the 14th century moated Bodiam Castle. At Bodiam Castle the Sussex Border Path is joined and followed as far as Conghurst Farm. Conghurst lane is then followed for a short distance. From the cross roads at Canal Bridge field paths are followed to the top of Silver Hill. At this point the A21 is followed for a few yards and then crossed (Great care is needed, this is a very busy road with fast moving traffic and the pavement/verge is narrow). Soon the difficulties of the A21 are forgotten as you drop down into the Rother valley and then follow the mill stream back to Robertsbridge.

Start  Robertsbridge Station, Car park (pay and display). Nearby post codeTN32 5DD. OS Grid reference TQ733235.

  1. Exit the car park and then turn left down Station Road until it ends at a T junction. Turn left along the High Street and then turn right into Fair Lane. Continue along Fair lane until it turns sharp left, here continue forward onto a footpath and then across a footbridge.

  2. After crossing the bridge turn left and follow the path to a road. Turn right along the road and then at a junction by a farm continue forward onto a private road to Grey Friars Farm Abbey and Oast. Continue until you come to a gate across the road. 3. Cross the stile and then continue straight across the field to a stile. Cross the stile and then turn right along an enclosed path to the fence corner. Continue forward with river flood prevention bank on your left to the field corner

  9. Cross the stile and then continue with the hedge on the right to a footpath gate on the right. Go through the gate and then head diagonally across the field towards a White House.

  10. Go through the gate onto the road and then turn right along the road to the first driveway on the left. Turn left along the driveway. Follow the driveway until it ends at Lower Northlands Farm. Here continue forward through a kissing gate.

Follow the track and then turn right into a field. Continue to follow right edge of the field. Ignore the first gateway on the right and then at the far end of the field follow a track through a small woodland into the next field.

  16. In the next field continue forward up the hill aiming for the corner of a wood. At the wood corner continue forward with the woodland on your left to the corner of the field. Follow a path through the small woodland into the next field.
