A Short Circular Walk

This short walk has plenty of diversity. It leaves robertsbridge through Gray Nicolls cricket bat factory yard and then follows the Rother valley. Climbing along the west side of the valley to Squibs farm. From here the walk climbs a ridge through Hackwoods farm to ludpit lane. On the return to Robertsbridge there are some good views down the Rother valley.

  1. Leave the car park back onto Station Road and then turn left. Just before the bridge turn left onto footpath into Gray Nicolls yard.

  2. Continue forward with the concrete wall on your right. Towards the end of the yard continue on the path.

  3. Follow the path under the railway and then continue forward following a line of telegraph poles to a footbridge. Cross the footbridge and then go through the tunnel under the railway and then through the gate.

  4. After passing through the gate turn right across the footbridge and then turn left. Continue to the end of the field and then pass into the next field.

  5. In the next field turn right and keep the hedge on your right to a footpath gate. Go through the gate and then turn left keeping the hedge on the left to a stile in the corner of the field. Cross the stile and then cross a track to follow an enclosed path, continue up steps into a field.

  6. Follow the path across the field to a brick bridge. Cross the bridge and then turn left through a gateway. Turn right and continue with the hedge on your right to a gateway in the field corner.

  7. Go through the gateway and then turn left and keep the hedge on the left through two fields to the farm.

  8. At the farm turn left and then follow the concrete road between the buildings, keeping left at the concrete road junction into a field. Continue downhill on a track with the hedge on your left. Pass through a gateway and then continue with a hedge on your right.

  9. In the corner of the field continue forward on a track over a bridge and then continue forward on a path between hedges. Keep forward on the path as it passes between the houses to the access road. Continue forward on the access road to a lane.

  10. Turn left and then pass Wyland Wood Cottage on the right before crossing a stile in the hedge on the right. Cross the field diagonally to the opposite corner, cross a stile onto the road and turn right on the road. Turn left on the driveway just past Scalands Folly to Scalands Farm.

  11. Follow the driveway past a house on the right then take the kissing gate on the left. After passing through the kissing gate, turn right heading to another kissing gate in the fence just below Scalands farm house garden.

  12. Cross the farm track to go through the kissing gate opposite and then follow the enclosed path to a kissing gate. Go through the kissing gate and then turn left to continue with the fence/hedge on the left through two fields.

  13. At the end of the second field continue forward on the track to a footpath sign pointing right. Here turn right onto track passing to the right of some poly tunnels.

  14. Track bends left and continues downhill with a fence on your left. Follow the path right through a gateway and then continue forward on a small path through a small woodland. Keep forward to cross a stile onto an access road.

  15. Turn left along the access road to a lane and then turn left along the lane. Pass under the railway before turning right onto path into a housing estate. Continue forward to the main road and then turn right back to the station.
