Refreshments: The Greedy Goat Cafe, The Bell and The Chequers Inn

This walk leaves Burwash along Ham Lane with views over the Rother valley. The walk then crosses the river Rother at Wreckery Bridge before continuing through fields to the small village of Stonegate. From Stonegate, there is then a short walk along a quiet but narrow lane, with good views back across the valley to Burwash. Fields and woodland with many wild flowers are then passed thought before the road is followed into Ticehurst. Ticehurst is a busy village with many shops, pubs and a café. After leaving the bustle of Ticehurst it suddenly becomes very peaceful as a ridge walk is enjoyed with views opening up to the south almost to the coast at times. The walk continues, crossing the Rother valley and passing to the West of Etchingham before continuing along the Dudwell valley back to Burwash Church.

  2. Turn left here through a kissing gate and then continue forward, heading diagonally across the field to the far right-hand corner passing to the left of the row of trees in the middle of the field.

  3. Go through a small gate in the corner of the field into a wood and then follow the path through the wood to a footbridge. Cross over the footbridge into a field and then bear right to another footbridge in the corner of the field.

  4. Cross this footbridge and continue forward with the hedge on the left to a Stile on the left. Cross the stile and then turn right and continuing with the hedge on your right to a bridge over the river.

  5. Having crossed the bridge, continue forward across the field to a clump of trees in the middle of the field. At the clump of trees turn left across the field heading towards a footbridge

  9. Go through the gateway and continue forward on a track with a pond on your right. Continue to follow the track when it turns right into woodland and passes between ponds.

  10. Where the track enters a field, turn left, and follow the field edge, ignoring all paths into the wood. At the far corner of the field pass through a gap in the hedge and then continue forward with the woodland still on your left, to the end of the field.

  11. At the end of the field, turn left over a stile and then continue forward with the hedge on your right to a gate. Go through the gate and bear left to a stile into a wood. Cross the stile and follow the path to the right, over a footbridge and up to a stile.
