This walk follows the Rother valley to Witherenden Bridge passing through one of the few remaining Hop gardens in the area. The walk continues through fields and woodland to the small market town of Wadhurst which has a good range of shops and a number of pubs. Leaving Wadhurst the walk passes through the open access area of Snape Wood and then joins a quiet lane for a short time along a high ridge with good views all around. A small part of Wadhurst Deer Park is then passed through before the Rother valley is crossed   and Holmshurst Manor, the home of Roger Daltrey can be seen in the distance and is later passed as the walk continues back to Burwash.

  2. Cross over the stile to follow a path between fences, which end at a footbridge and gate, cross the bridge and go through the gate into a field. Turn left, going down the field with the hedge on your left. At the bottom of the field cross over a stile and continue downhill to a footbridge.

  3. Cross the bridge and head uphill, keeping the hedge on the right to a gate in the top right-hand corner of the field (Mottynsden manor is on the right). Go through the gate onto a drive and then turn right.

Go through the gate and cross the driveway to the path opposite, continue beside a wooden fence and then up some steps to follow the right-hand edge of the field to a stile in the corner of the field. Go over the stile and cross the track to a stile opposite. Cross the stile and follow a path to then cross another stile into a field.

  6. Keep to the right hand side of the field with a fence on the right, to a gateway. Pass through the gateway and then bear left, the footpath goes diagonally across the field to just left of the far bottom corner.

  10. Having crossed the stile turn right and follow the field edge, at the field corner continue to follow the field edge keeping the hedge on the right going downhill to locate a stile in the hedge on the right. Cross the stile and continue forward to a stile in the opposite hedge.

  11. Cross the stile and continue forward to a stile and footbridge located in the far right-hand corner, where the hedge ends and a fence begins. Cross the stile and footbridge and maintain the same direction to a small gate in the far right-hand corner of the field.

  27. Cross the stile and then continue forward with the hedge on the left to a point where the hedge has been removed here continue forward to re-join the hedge. Keep forward with the hedge on the left through two more fields and then at the corner of the second field turn right to locate a path through the trees on the left to an access road. Turn right on the access road and pass Lodge Hill Farm

  28. Continue along the access road until it turns left and there is a shed on the right. Just before the shed turn right through a footpath gate. Continue forward on a path, heading downhill to a footbridge over a river at the bottom of the hill.

  45. Follow the path through the wood and where the main path turns right, continue forward on an indistinct path going downhill to join a track. Turn left on the track and then at a gate leave the track on the right following another indistinct path up to a kissing gate.

  46. Go through the kissing gate and continue forward uphill with the farm buildings on the left to a gate. Go through the gate and continue to the second gate on the left. Go through this gate and continue forward on a small path beside a bungalow garden to a driveway, path has double glazed windows stacked beside it.
