This walk starts by going down Washwell lane and then across fields to the open access area of Snap wood. The walk continues through a small woodland that is full of Bluebells in the spring and then through fields passing close to Tidebrook Church. From the small hamlet of Tidebrook the walk continues to Wadhurst Park and passes close to the lake. From here Batts Wood and the small hamlet of Button are passed through on the way back to Wadhurst.

Start : Public car park behind The Greyhound Inn on the High Street Wadhurst. OS Grid Ref. TQ 640 316. Nearby post code TN5 6AP

It can be difficult to park here when the school is open. If so, there is a car park and roadside parking in Washwell lane beside the White Hart Pub.

  1. Leave the car park and then turn left along the high street. Continue to the White Hart pub and then turn left into Washwell Lane. When the road bears right into Courthope Avenue continue downhill on Washwell lane. Near the bottom of the hill cross the stile on the right and then turn left and follow the path as it curves right up the slope.

  2. Continue to follow the path across the field to a stile in the far corner. Cross the stile and then turn right onto an enclosed path and follow this until it ends at a stile. Cross the stile and continue forward following the left edge of the field to then cross a stile on the left into a forest.

  3. Turn right and follow a track to a forest ride and then keep right and follow the forest ride to a junction. At the junction take the track on the right and follow it to a small path on your right.

  4. Follow the path to cross the railway and then continue down steps and across a footbridge. Having crossed the footbridge turn left and follow a path into a field and then follow the right hand edge of three fields to a road.

  5. Cross the road and follow a track to the second gateway. Here turn left through a gap in the fence. Keep forward with the hedge on your right to a stile in the field corner. Cross the stile and then continue forward with the fence on your left to a gate into woodland.

  6. Follow a path through the woodland to a gate into a field. Continue diagonally across the field to a gate in the opposite hedge. Go through the right hand of the two gates and then continue forward following the left hand boundary to a stile onto a driveway.

  7. Cross the driveway and a stile and then turn left to the top of the hill. Continue along the top of the hill with the boundary on your left to join an enclosed path in the far corner of the field. Follow the enclosed path to a gate.

  8. Go through the gate and then continue forward on the driveway to a junction. At the junction go through the gate opposite into a field and then bear left across the field. Near the bottom corner of the field cross a ditch.

  9. After crossing the ditch turn right through a gap in the hedge and then follow the right hand field boundary to locate a stile tucked back in the hedge. Cross the stile and then go down some steps to the road.

  10. Turn left along the road to a track on the left. Turn left along the track. Follow this track passing a number of houses. After passing Chittinghurst Farm the track becomes grass covered.  Continue until it ends at a gate into a field. Go through the gate and then bear right to the far corner of the field.

  11. Go through the gate in the field corner and then continue forward, crossing the stile into the field. Continue with the fence on your left to a footbridge in the corner of the field.

  12. Cross the footbridge and then turn right keeping the hedge on your right to a gate and bridge at the bottom of the field. Go through the gate and then cross the bridge. After crossing the bridge continue forward across the field to a bridge just to the left of the telegraph pole in the opposite hedge.

  13. Cross the bridge and then keep to the left edge of the field to a track.  Turn left along the track, crossing a bridge and then take the path on the right to a stile.

  14. Cross the stile into a field and continue forward across the field to a stile in the fence on the opposite side of the field. Cross the stile and maintain the same direction in the next field, heading towards the left end of a small woodland, to locate a kissing gate in the fence. Go through the kissing gate and continue forward, up the hill to a track. Turn right on the track heading downhill to a bridge.

  15. Cross the bridge and then take the left hand track, continuing with the woodland on your left and then passing through a row of trees, (the old field boundary). Now bear right up the hill to a marker post. Maintain the same direction to join a track through a small strip of woodland and then continue forward uphill to a kissing gate in the fence.

  16. Go through the gate and then continue forward on a path heading into the forest away from the fence. Keep left at all junctions. To start with there will be a deer fence on your left and then a normal stock fence until you arrive at a stile and footbridge.

  17. Cross the stile and footbridge and then turn right into a field. Continue forward with the woodland on the left. Go through the first gateway on the left and then continue forward (uphill) still keeping the woodland on your left. Go through the gateway ahead and then continue forward to join a track to the farm.

  18. Continue straight through the farmyard to a gate onto the access road. Turn left and follow the access road, continuing straight on at a junction to join a lane on a sharp bend.

  19. Continue forward along the lane past the past the second house on the right (Buttons Barn). Look for a stile on the right into Glen Farm. Cross the stile and then continue forward to a stile into a field. Cross the stile and then follow the left hand boundary of the field to the railway crossing in the top left corner.

  20. Cross the railway and then continue forward with the hedge on your left to the far corner of the field. Continue forward through the gate and then continue forward across the field to a stile.

  21. Cross the stile and then continue with the hedge on you left to a gateway in the field corner. Continue forward through the gateway and head straight across the field to a gate.

  22. Go through the gate and then follow an enclosed path through another gate into a field. Continue forward in the field with the fence on your left to a footpath gate. Turn left through the gate and then continue forward to a road.

Cross over the road and follow Brinkers Lane to the main road. Turn left along the main road back into Wadhurst and the car park.
